The Huayhuash trek in the cordillera is one of the most beautiful treks in the world, and it is easy to believe. The towns of Pocpa and Llamac are usually the starting points for this hike. The total length of the Cordillera Huayhuash spans only 30 km, but within its compact area are impressive towering peaks. At nearly every turn, you come face to face with shimmering vertical walls of ice, snow, and rock. Beautiful lakes, different types of birds and keep an eye out for huge Andean condors and Siula Grande 6,344 masl, the site of the popular book and movie “Touching the Void”!
HUARAZ- LLÁMAC – CUARTEL HUAIN (4250m) .- On this day we leave Huaraz (3100m) at 8:00 am, we pass many places, the Conoccocha lagoon pass (4200m), Chiquián (3350m), Llámac (3100m) and first camp Cuartel Huaín (4250m), the trip is by bus approximately 5 hours with stops. An approximate of 154 km.
CUARTELHUAÍN – MITUCOCHA.- Second day, this day you leave the camp at 8:00 am. It is uphill, a very steep climb of approximately 2:30 hours. Until the Cacanán Punta pass (4750m), from here we can appreciate the Pucacocha Lagoon, it is also worth mentioning that it is the border of the Ancash Region with Huánuco, from here it costs less than 1.5 hours approx. Until Janca Mitucocha usual camp (4200m), from here uphill 02 hours to the next Carhua pass (4600m), then downhill 1:30 hours to Carhuacocha camp (4250m). An approximate of 17 km.
CARHUACOCHA – HUAYHUASH .- It is our third day, on this day we leave very early at 7:30 am, a walk through the valley to Laguna Siula 02 hours approx. Here we appreciate the first Kanrajanca Lagoon, and then the second Siula lagoon, from here uphill 01 hour to the 4600m viewpoint of the three lagoons, the last Quesillococha Lagoon, after the viewpoint 01 hour to the Siula Pass (4800m), then from the I spend 02 hours until the Huayhuash Camp (4300m). Approximately 18 km.
HUAYHUASH (4300m) – CUYOC PAMPA (4400m ).- This day it is preferable to leave very early at 6:30 am or earlier, because the earlier we have the better view of the Trapecio pass, uphill 3:00 hours to the first pass Trapecio (5020m), then half an hour uphill to the Mirador (5200m), from where we can appreciate the imposing beauty of the different peaks such as: Siula, Juraos, Sarapo and the Trapecio, Puscanturpa.
CUYOC PAMPA (4400m) – HUAYLLAPA (3500m).- This day we left very early at 6:00 am uphill 2:30 hours to the San Antonio pass 5100 mt from this point we will be able to appreciate many peaks, such as Siula (6345m) , the Sarapo (6127m), the juraos and then see where they recorded the movie TOUCHING THE VOID, after the very steep downhill pass for 2 hours, then the entire Calinca valley 03 hours to Huayllapa (small town) 3500 mt the most distant 21 km.
HUAYLLAPA 3500mt – GASHPAPAMPA (4600m).- It is our sixth day on this day we will leave at 7:00 am, from the camp uphill 4.5 hours to the Tapush Punta pass 4750 mt is the limit of the Lima region with the Ancash Region, then to the camp 01 hour downhill. 16 km approximate.
GASHPAPAMPA (4600m) – JAHUACOCHA (4150m).- It is our seventh day, on this day we will leave at 8:00 am, this day is short and very beautiful, from the camp uphill 02 hours to the Yaucha pass 4800 mt, after We headed for the viewpoint for 30 min, then downhill for 02 hours to the Jahuacocha camp 4150 masl, the heart of Huayhuash. 10 km approximate.
JAHUACOCHA (4150m)– LLÁMAC (3100m) – HUARAZ (3100m)t.- Our eighth day and last day, on this day we left very early at 6:00 am, the entire valley 01 hour, then uphill 2.5 hours to the Pampa Llámac pass 4300 mt, then from here downhill very steep 02 hours to Llámac (3100m), where the bus awaits us, the walk from Juahuacocha to Llámac 14 km.
